I haven't rendered a high resolution image yet, but I used a self similar escape time and orbit trap color map to make it extra symmetrical.

Dark Plasma Strings
Another abstraction from Chaotica..
This is after 11 passes. Chaotica can run a LOT of passes on these fractals, just don't hit save before
PAUSING the rendering or it will crash...

The fractal fortress: z = z^3 + c
Instead of the usual Mandelbrot z = z^2 + c iteration we use z = z^3 + c we get a somewhat different shape fractal though it still exhibits a similar "hairiness" that we see in the Mandelbrot:
Hairiness in the Mandelbrot set
So as you magnify the Mandelbrot set more and more, there are certain regions and sections that seem to exhibit what seems to be "hairiness" by way of having so many intricate tendrils in close proximity that the appearance of the edge of the mandelbrot set looks like a sea of hair.

Chaotica
There is this really cool program out on the Mac called "Chaotica". Sounds like something named after Stephen Wolfram's Mathematica eh? Well it creates images that are similar to those created in the PC program "Apophysis" so I'm trying out a few random tweaks to see what it produces... Here are a few images I've managed to muddle through.
